My quest to Learn How to Learn began over 13 years ago. It was fueled by my passion for learning and the Spirit’s leading. I set out to help my grandchildren lay a foundation of life-long learning that would be passed onto their children.

Along the way, I coached adults in life and career transitions. I developed a high school program “So, What About You?” The students learned about their personalities, interests, core values and goals. Using a modified approach, I taught junior high students to know themselves and think about college and careers that best fit them.

Working with these students in public schools was a challenge and a joy. It prompted two core questions:
1. Why doesn’t public education teach us how to learn?
2. Are there principles of learning that can be taught to everyone?

Looking for answers and discovering more questions to ask, I

  • learned accelerated learning techniques,
  • learned the history of public education in the United States,
  • attended personal growth seminars,
  • studied brain science, cognitive processing principles and multiple intelligences.

I have met some of the top experts in these various fields. My journey continues as I read, research and maintain contact with experts, educators and parents.

The Learning Compass is the harvest of the knowledge I discovered on how to learn. The Learning Compass as the platform for life-long learning provides products and services to fulfill our mission: “to educate, equip and empower families to learn together life-long.”

Learning begins in the home and needs to continue there. Our family and homes have the potential to be the green house environment to nurture life-long learning. Each one teaches while learning - a mutual we-learning system of person to person, and peer to peer. Mom and Dad learn and teach each other. They then teach and learn side by side with their children. The children in return teach and learn. It grows beyond the home and into the community - an ecosystem of learners throughout the planet.
